Our Application Process

Throughout the year we welcome your brief letters of inquiry about our seven focus areas, but regret that we cannot review unsolicited proposals. Organizations interested in applying to the Ansara Family Fund should submit a 2-page letter of inquiry (LOI) as the first step, including a list of funders and prospective funders. Please note that submitting an LOI does NOT ensure an invitation to apply. Due to our current commitments we also regret that we are unable to consider making new gifts through the end of 2010.

  • We favor general operating support and capacity building grants that strengthen social-profit organizations over the long-term.
  • We make most grants in the $10,000-$25,000 range and occasional multi-year commitments totaling more than $100,000. A representative listing of grants is available upon request.
  • Our total annual giving ranges from $500,000-$700,000 for approximately 20-30 grants per year.
  • We solicit proposals in September and March for decisions two months later.
  • We provide one-time and multi-year grants to qualified non-profit organizations that are exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code and that are not private foundations.
  • Grants to non-US-based and non-501(c)(3) organizations located outside of the U.S. are made through an intermediary organization such as CAF America, which provides international grantmaking due diligence services.
  • As a Donor Advised Fund of The Boston Foundation, we are accountable to the highest ethical standards of a leading community foundation. The Foundation's staff advise the Fund and coordinate its philanthropy.
